Colorado Winners Among USDOE's Green Ribbon Awards

Matt Samelson worked with the Colorado Green Schools Initiative to encourage schools across the state to apply for the award. The Green Schools Initiative includes architects and engineers, teachers and principals, educators and energy officials that are working to create high-performing, sustainable school facilities.

Congratulations to Flagstone Elementary of Douglas County School District, the Denver Green School of Denver Public Schools, and Wellington Middle School of Poudre Valley School District, Colorado’s inaugural Green Ribbon Awards recipients. The three Colorado schools received the Green Ribbon Awards from the U.S. Department of Education on April 23.

Selection for a Green Ribbon Award was based on three categories:

1) Environmental Impact & Energy Efficiency,

2) Healthy School Environment, and

3) Environmental and Sustainability Education.

The schools will be honored at a ceremony in Washington D.C. on June 3-4.

Kinnard Core Knowledge Middle School in Fort Collins also made news recently for sustainability, with a feature on KUNC
