September's Speaker: Game Theorist Katie Salen

Katie Salen, far left, joined us to launch a new season of What Matters & What Counts in Education.

Katie is Professor of Games and Digital Media at DePaul University and former Director of the Center for Transformative Media, a research center focused on emerging trends in design and media. She’s also executive director of a non-profit called the Institute of Play that is focused on games and learning.

Katie led the team that founded Quest to Learn, a new 6-12th grade public school in New York City, and a similar school in Chicago.

This first presentation of the season was a perfect fit for the series, given our focus on creativity.
